It felt more like a job interview, but not the way a date is supposed to be a job interview.

For better or (much, much) worse, dating in Seattle isn’t like dating in any other city.

Seriously, whether it’s the constant single shade of gray or the fact that we’re just too laid-back, there’s no place tougher to find the one…

The women here seem more distracted than ever before and at times, I’ve felt like a number to them.

So Reifman did what any sexually frustrated single male would do: He crunched the numbers, comparing estimates of Amazon’s expansion to census data in Seattle.

Tech blogger Jeff Reifman has come up with some pretty sobering statistics when it comes to dating prospects for straight, single guys.

And in a blog post he aptly titles “You’ve Got Male,” he says is a big reason why. Reifman estimates Amazon now employs nearly 25,000 people. Suffice it to say that means a lot more fishermen than fish in the sea (or dating pool.) Reifman projects there will be 134 single men in Seattle for every 100 single women by the end of 2014.

well, the universe probably, and the weather will affect your personal life in several ways: the lack of sunshine can make you depressed; studies suggest people in warmer cities are more friendly, which certainly helps when you're looking for someone to get "friendly" with; and it's hard to meet anyone when most of the city will be at home in sweat pants watching According to women, it's because Seattle guys are all awkward, passive aggressive losers who don't know how to talk to women.

And they may be right, but a more charitable explanation may have something to do with Seattle's traditional Northern European reserve; the fact we're simply too polite to aggressively approach women; or that we are too busy enjoying the great outdoors to date. It's a myth that there aren't any attractive women in Seattle, BUT it certainly seems true until about late April when the weather starts to get nice, at which point they start to do things like wear make up/heels/something other than jeans.

If you’re single and work in the tech industry in Seattle, you’d think you’d be quite the catch with the ladies.

Unfortunately, there are far too many of you out there.

Reifman says he’s had a tough enough time dating in Seattle the past couple of years, and wondered if Amazon’s rapid growth could be playing a part in it (he is a tech guy after all, so of course he had to have data.) The tech industry veteran compared U. That’s way up from a ratio of 119 single men to 100 single women in April 2010, when Amazon began its latest wave of non-stop growth.
