Internet dating writing

Yes, you heard me -- I craft other people’s online dating pages for Tinder, Ok Cupid, Our Time, you name it.

(On How About We, this is the “I’m Intrigued” button, on OKCupid it’s a wink.) In general, this is not a good way for a guy to approach a girl on an online dating site.

So online dating -- on a site, an app or three, or both -- is a no-brainer.

It expands your dating pool exponentially, opens you up to new experiences and people, and pretty much the entirety of the single (and some of the not-so-single) population is doing it. When I launched my business two and a half years ago, I had no idea what the response would be like, so I charged $20 for a complete makeover. This is your romantic life that we’re talking about.

The stigma is gone -- and don’t listen to anyone who disagrees. Today, my clients zip their credit cards to the tune of anywhere around $100 to $500 (though I spill 144 pages of easy, actionable advice in my new book, for those on a budget). To be completely corny and completely honest, these sites and apps can help you find the most important person in your life -- and they all require some sort of profile (yes, even a series of photos counts).

That goal alone, though, can be paralyzing, giving even writers writers’ block and above all making the majority of profiles…let’s just say lacking the personality they so desperately need.

While you’re at it, direct your compliments to personality traits and not appearances.

Superficial come-ons from strangers on the web aren’t attractive. Do Stand Out and Be Funny or Genuine Instead of offering a line about how cute or sexy someone is, say something more memorable. This is your chance to stand out from the crowd by expressing yourself the way only you can.

Pick-up lines are overused and won’t tell your matches anything substantial about you as a person. Let the person of interest see that you’re someone special and worth getting to know. Do Ask a Question or Two Asking a question is the best way to get someone to respond to you.
